Firmament is a project very near and dear to me. I co-created the game concept and co-directed the demo/pitch materials alongside Cyan founder Rand Miller.
As per the initial teaser, Firmament is “a resplendent, magical, journey – a monumental voyage through four diverse and curious realms, working in concert with an ever-present, clockwork companion, and the support and instruction of a long-dead, ethereal mentor.” In reality, that summary is just the tip of the iceberg for what I genuinely feel is an grand, epic journey filled with revelations, shocking discoveries, and classic Cyan wonderment.
Following creation of the trailer video above, we also authored a fully-playable VR demo, meant to serve as a tool to attract funding/publishing partners to the project. As of current, it’s unclear if Firmament will ever be developed into a fully-produced game, but I certainly hope so.
In addition to co-creating, co-directing – I served as the project’s Art Director and Technical AD, developing the entirety of our shader and production pipeline. Cyan’s small but very talented team of artists did the majority of asset creation and scene assembly.
